Some History about Woodbury
Woodbury was originally named Red Rock, after a sacred stone painted by the Dakota Chief Little Crow. The town was renamed Woodbury in 1859 after Levi Woodbury, when it was discovered that another Red Rock already existed in Minnesota. When first settled in 1844, the land was mostly timber, but was slowly converted to farmland. The township government was organized in 1858, and the first town hall built in 1876 with James Middleton elected to represent the district in the state legislature. The first suburban housing development, Woodbury Heights, began in 1955, and the city has seen an increasing level of metropolitan expansion as the farmland has given way to developments and shopping malls.
